Allison Menard - Collision Repair and Refinishing

Allison Menard - Collision Repair and Refinishing

The Hartford Area Career and Technology Center (HACTC) offers so many great things from great programs to fantastic learning environments. My experience in the Collision Repair and Refinishing program has been wonderful. This is my second year in the program and I love everything about it. Being in the program has led me to become a great leader and more dedicated to what I want to do as a career.

While being in this program I have done Women Can Do which is a conference where girls from all around Vermont come and learn and see other women do trades that are non-traditional. Another female student and I had our own presentation to show young girls how to paint a car using a paint gun.

I was also able to be apart of SkillsUSA which is a competition throughout technology schools in Vermont. I competed in the Collision Repair and Refinishing competition. I had to paint a fender, fix a dent in a fender, estimate the cost of fixing a car, take a written test, weld, and repair a plastic bumper.

Through this program, I have also been able to start working at Jasmin Auto Body in White River Junction through the Co-Op program offered at the HACTC. At Jasmin Auto Body, I work with the painters. These painters have taught me new ways to prep and mask off vehicle panels.  I have also learned a new way to fix a dent and use body filler.

This year I plan to attend and present at another Women Can Do conference as well as compete in SkillsUSA again. Being in the program and having all the opportunities I have had have made me realize how important this is to me. I want to make a career out of collision repair because it is something I enjoy doing and will look forward to every day. For everything I hope to one day achieve, I have to thank everyone at the HACTC for allowing me to realize and pursue what I want to do.
