Hartford Area Career & Technology Center
I am glad to be at HACTC because the atmosphere in my classroom is so remarkable and I look forward to coming to class each day. My classmates are welcoming to each other’s ideas and we all work so incredibly well together. We use a variety of learning styles in our classroom. The first year of this program is a lot of visual and auditory learning because you are setting up basic skills like learning medical terminology. The second year of this program is a lot of visual and kinesthetic learning because your instructor will give presentations and you will then practice those skills with your classmates or our mannequins in the classroom (this part is really fun!) I learn best with visual and kinesthetic learning so this second year of AMS will be directly teaching in the way I personally learn best. One of my favorite things has been learning lifesaver CPR which directly ties into kinesthetic learning and this year we will be learning adding to our knowledge by learning health care professional CPR.
I am looking forward to co-op placement this year because it will give me some insight as to what careers interest me. It may provide me with internship opportunities after the co-op placements. It may also provide job opportunities. Co-op placements are an opportunity to go out into the community and get hands-on experience in health careers. For my program, it usually means shadowing a health professional at a hospital or some place in the community that provides medical care. My first round of co-op placements is in the Regional Resource Center in the tech center. I will be working hands-on with the students in the program and with the Occupational Therapist that works with the students.I am taking a college class, Anatomy and Physiology, through AMS. It is a very challenging, but it is very rewarding and I have gained a lot of knowledge in only a few weeks! My reward when I am done with this class is a college credit and it will give me the advantage of having additional knowledge in the college classes I will be taking next year.
