Career Technology Exploration - Dakota Merrill

Career Technology Exploration - Dakota Merrill

My name is Dakota Merrill; I am a 16 year old sophomore at Woodstock Union High School. Outside of Woodstock, I am currently a student at the Hartford Area Career and Technology Center in their Career Exploration program offered to sophomores only. I first heard about the program from one of my friends who had done it last year and said it was a lot of fun; I have come to find out that it is just that.
It was in late May of my freshman year that I first heard of the Career Technology and Exploration program offered at Hartford. And to be honest, at first I gave it the cold shoulder and did not even bother thinking about it. But as the days went by I started considering it more and more. I eventually got my application in and a few weeks later during the summer, I received my acceptance letter from Hartford.
So far, my year at Hartford has been nothing short of awesome. Getting the chance to meet and make friends with students from other schools around Vermont and New Hampshire is great.  And the learning opportunities associated with the program are endless. As CTE students, we have a unique opportunity of being able to see every program at the HACTC.  More importantly, we get to see what is involved with each program to gain a better understanding of what we want to do at the Tech. Center when we are juniors. I am excited to continue on with the year and see what else waits for us along the way.
