Alex Cooper - Computer Technology Applications

Alex Cooper - Computer Technology Applications

CTA, where should I start? The Computer Technology Applications class is practically a second family to me. I enjoy every moment I have in this class, even if I am doing challenging work. I think this is because not only am I working on material, I am interested in building computers, writing code, or creating websites.  I am also working with others who enjoy it as much as I do. I would suspect that is how any student would feel in any given Hartford Area Career and Technology Center class.

I first joined CTA as a Sophomore to ‘test it out’.  Meaning if I ended up not enjoying it I could easily switch to a different HACTC class, such as DIMA, or not take one at all. Long story short, I enjoyed this class so much I wanted to continue my two month trial, but alas that was against the rules. So, I rejoined when I became a Junior. I have not regretted it thus far and we are already six months in. Of course, when I rejoined, I had different classmates. Like every new class, that is something I had to get used to. It did not take long though. Once we started working on group projects it really opened everyone’s eyes to see how alike we all were. I was soon able to make friends and grow comfortable again. The fact that I am one of the few girls in that class really did not have anything to do with it, by the way. Nobody really cares what gender you are so do not let intimidation win if you are truly interested in taking a HACTC course.

If you are pondering whether or not to join CTA or any other HACTC class, I say this: do it. It is worth your time and effort. The teachers and staff are awesome and the students that you would be in class with are interested in the same things as you, so you will be having a great time while learning. I know, it is hard to believe, but trust me on this. It will most likely be the focal point of your daily routine. I know spending two and a half hours working on computers brightens my day. Granted that is not everyone’s piece of pie, but that is why the HACTC offers other classes such as Automotive Technology and Cosmetology. Also, these classes are challenging, but in a good way. They challenge you mentally and physically. They cause you to think harder and faster and in doing so you gain skills you otherwise would not have obtained through a normal high school experience. Not to mention these classes look great on college applications. So yeah, there is that. CTA is awesome, but so is every other HACTC class. Try them out, it is worth it.
